Summer at the beach...

40 Bay Walk is a beach house located in Fair Harbor, Fire Island, two hours from NYC. This quaint bungalow faces the Great South Bay and has the perfect vantage point for toasting sunsets after a relaxing day at the beach, which is just a leisurely one minute walk away. The house is one block from the ferry and “town” which includes a grocery store, a general store, a restaurant, and wine shop… Yep, it’s that small, and quaint. If you have not been to Fair Harbor or Fire Island, for that matter, you can get more information here: www.fairharbor.org and here: www.fireisland.com.

This charming two-story house contains four bedrooms and sleeps six. On the first floor there are 3 rooms;  one king size bedroom, and two with two single beds. In the upper A-frame loft there are two single beds. There is a full bath on the first floor, half bath in the loft and an outdoor shower. A weekly cleaning service keeps the sand at the beach.

The house has a relaxed, mellow demeanor.  People come out to unwind at the beach, watch the sunset, cook, eat, drink, and sleep. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and “salt air christened’ bikes, are all included. If late night parties are your thing, this isn’t the town for you. But in the rare case the party bug bites, you can take a 15 minute walk to Kismet or take a water taxi to Ocean Beach.

It is great for a group of responsible adults or families, although, the house is not ‘child proofed’ and parents are responsible for the safety of their children.

Please note that late night parties that keeps the neighbors up, or excessive loud music during the day, will not be tolerable and after one warning you will be asked to leave the premises.

WEEKLY RENTALS

The house is available for private rental throughout the summer. Great for a group of responsible adults. Families welcomes, although the house is not ‘child proofed’ and parents are responsible for the safety of their children. During the week, the Island is quiet and slower than the weekend, although it’s not all that ‘fast’ on the weekends either. Take a bike down to Kismet, walk to the Lighthouse or a lateral ferry for lunch in Ocean Beach. Or, just sit on the deck, enjoy a refreshing drink and watch the waves lap on the Bay. FAIR HARBOR

Fair Harbor is a “town” on Fire Island which includes a grocery store, a general store, a restaurant, and wine shop… Yep, it’s that small, and quaint. If you have not been to Fair Harbor or Fire Island, for that matter, check out this 2015 Huffington Post article or you can get more information here: www.fairharbor.org and here: www.fireisland.com

GETTING TO THE HOUSE PICK THE FERRY FIRST! The schedule is available online and changes around the major holidays. You will need to purchase ferry tickets at the window or on the ferry. Relax, enjoy and feel your shoulders melt as you watch the houses in Bay Shore become very tiny….

Fire Island Ferries Main Terminal
99 Maple Ave
Bay Shore, NY 11706

Take a train that arrives at Bay Shore at least 30 minutes before the ferry departs. Keep in mind that you may have to change trains at Babylon or Jamaica Station. The train ride is about an hour. Rates can be found here. A reminder that it is cheaper to buy tickets in advance vs on the train. For those with 5 weekends, there is a 10 pack ticket that is the least expensive option.

To get from the train to the ferry, you can take a Tommy’s taxis/buses, which will be at the station when the train arrive in Bay Shore to take people to the Ferries. A one way, 5 minute ride is $5 (2019 price). Confirm you are on the bus to the Fair Harbor ferry terminal. If you decide to walk from the train, it’s about 15-20 minutes south along Maple Ave. Take a right onto Maple Ave away from the train tracks. Hang a left at the first large sign for the ferry terminal. It’s a nice walk if your bag isn’t too heavy and you have a half hour before your ferry leaves.
